5. INGREDIENTS OF SUCCESS: GREECE, SCOTLAND, THAILAND, JAPAN, MOROCCO


There’s something for everyone’s taste and even for the most demanding amongst you. The scents and aromas of the world will permeate Milanese restaurants and find themselves on some of the city’s best tables. Fuori Bit has created a menu called Stop Taste & Go. On Friday February 18th, 6 gourmet Milanese restaurants are participating in an open day during which they will offer free samples of another country’s cuisine, interpreted by the top class chefs of these 6 restaurants. Food aside, here we investigate the real ingredients that make these countries so special...

1. SCOTLAND: STRENGTH AND FRIENDLINESS

The Loch Ness Monster, the kilt, the bagpipes, whiskey and highlanders. Stereotypes they may be. Nevertheless the Scots are very proud of these cultural elements. The country’s secret ingredient is a mix of strength and friendliness that ensures Scotland a peaceful and promising future. Discover Scotland at the Fuori Bit on Friday February 18th at the Liberty Restaurant on Monte Grappa Street, no. 6. Food tasting in a typical Scottish atmosphere can be enjoyed.

2. THAILAND: HOSPITALITY AND TOLERANCE

What immediately strikes visitors as soon as they arrive in Thailand is the hospitality and tolerance of the Thai people toward other cultures. One of the reasons for this may be due to the fact that tourism is the principal economic activity of the country and it is important to attract and to continue to attract visitors from all over the world. Thailand is a fascinating mix of modernity, with its high tech metropoli, and history, with its temples and ancient monuments. Added to this, the stunning beauty of the countryside for which Thailand is famous. Thailand is hosted at the Brando restaurant on Via Buonarroti on Friday the 18th. Here diners can sample Brando’s take on typical Thai dishes.

3. JAPAN: THE HARMONY OF OPPOSITES

So many contrasting adjectives to describe the essence of Japan, a country that combines traditional and progressive behaviour yet where a strong moral code often results in a fervent justice. Visit La Pesa restaurant for a taste of true Japanese cuisine, via Fantoni 26 on the evening of Friday 18th.

5. GREECE: FROM OLYMPUS TO THE ABYSS AND BACK

Where else in the world would you find a poet whose works are translated into English, French, German and Italian and yet makes sandals to make a living? Stavros Melissinos has touched the feet of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Sophia Loren, Jackie Kennedy, Rudolph Nureyev, Margot Fontaine and Ursula Andress. Visit his little store on the Piazza Monastiraki and photograph his statue after having bought a pair of sandals and listened to a few verses! Melissinos is the symbol of a country undergoing a cultural renaissance. Greece is presented at the Brera in Night event on Friday 18th around the Via Ciovasso and the Via della Bindellina.
