Néo:EVERYTHING IMMEDIATELY!THE ROCKET TO SUCCESS
4. CINEMA: THREE INSTANT STARS
How to become a Hollywood star? For Cameron Diaz a single audition was enough
to make it. Carey Mulligan had to use nerve and charm. Rosario Dawson instead had to do exactly nothing…
BLONDE POWER: CAMERON DIAZ
Without experience, but already wanted by everybody: this is what happened to Cameron Diaz
even before starting her acting career. At 16 she began modeling, drawing the attention because
of her atypical beauty, the result of an extraordinary mix of American, Cuban, Dutch, German,
English and Cherokee ancestry in her family. At her first audition she was chosen over several
renowned actresses to star in The Mask with Jim Carrey. Despite having no acting experience,
the producers wanted her so much that they resolved to giving her acting lessons whilst the movie was being filmed.
It was 1994 and the movie, which entered the top 10 chart of that year, crowned Diaz as one
of the sexiest Hollywood actresses.

CAREY MULLIGAN: A GIRL WITH GUTS
Carey Mulligan, instead, knew he wanted to be an actress since when, at the age of 14 she saw her
brother acting in a school play. At 18 she was rejected by all the best Drama schools of England.
Moreover, her parents looked unfavourably on this kind of career and were pushing her to opt for a
'normal' university. But Mulligan wasn't to be diverted. She secretly wrote to the principal of her
high school, asking to be put in touch with an actor that was going to take part in a conference at
her school. That actor was Julian Fellowes. He himself introduced her to an agent looking for a
new face for a part in Pride and Prejudice. And so Carey was given the role of Kitty Bennett,
one of the leading ones in the movie, by the side of Keira Knightley. This definitely proves
that nerve and initiative are never enough!

ROSARIO DAWSON: A MIRACLE IN NEW YORK!
How many girls take part in a movie which is going to make it to the big screen?
It seems like a urban myth, but that's what actually happened to
Rosario Dawson. When 15, Rosario was sitting in front of her house in New York,
planning on becoming a marine biologist, when photographers Larry Clark and Harmony Korine
saw her and decided her face was perfect for the movie they were writing. Kids came out
in 1995 and the then-unknown Afro-Cuban girl left behind her economically precarious
childhood to enter the world of blockbuster movies like Sin City and Men in Black.
