1. THE EVENT: The robot Olympics

From China, with great furore, come the Robotic Olympics in Harbin. Only biped robots will be permitted to enter these Olympic Games. The organizers expect participants from over 100 universities from throughout the world and from at least 20 participating countries. The competition will contribute to giving a new drive to the creation of increasingly evolved humanoid robots and succeeding one day in having real, true artificial partners in man's daily activities.

2. LUXURY: Jewel-like mobile phones created solely for the Chinese market

Many fashion companies are trying to open as many boutiques as possible around China, as China currently holds the second place in the world with regard to purchases of luxury goods. The Chinese love to buy luxury goods; their passion for luxury is unstoppable, and the market still seems to be bullish despite the worldwide recession.

One example is the mobile phone produced by the French jeweller Reyn in 925 silver. This model, at least for the moment, is exclusively for the Chinese market, which is numbered at the trifle of 376 million people.

3. THE OBJECT: MING

"Ming" is the name of a collection of bamboo spectacles created by the Chinese designer Chen Chun-Hao in collaboration with the artist Huang To-En. The line uses the incredible lightness of the material and is inspired by the delicacy of the classical works of the Ming era.

4. ART: HUIQUIN WANG

In her work, the painter Huiqin Wang uses techniques with different origins: Chinese calligraphic art and print, oil painting, watercolours, computerized graphics.

"My canvases", explains Wang, "are like the pages of a diary which I impress with my emotions, my positive or negative states of mind. They are a work of outline. Through art I purify myself. Art helps me to lead a certain type of life."

Her studio has welcomed photographs, poets, writers, choreographers and naturally painters with whom she has created collective works, evidencing a multifaceted, multidisciplinary approach to art and a desire to make antithetical worlds enter into dialogue. Her work puts distant universes, western and eastern art, into contact.

5. MUSIC: the S.H.E.

They are from Taiwan but they draw the crowds in China. The S.H.E. are a female Taiwanese group whose members are Hebe Tian, Selina Jen and Ella Chen.
