Shivers: in search of ghosts in Scotland
CONTRIBUTION: Paola Marino
They Say it's the castle most infested by ghosts in Europe. The
castle of Glamis, in Scotland. According to the legend, it has risen on the place where
Macbeth killed his cousin, the king of Scotland. The place is known as a theater of grisly stories: from the "terrible secret of the Strathmores",
the English noble at the end of XVI century lived in its rooms, the murderer of Malcom II, cut into pieces by a group of rebels inside the castle,
whose blood marked the pavement, and today is still on the floor an enormous visible stain, actually to reach the numerous deaths tied to the castle
that seem to add up to a multitude of dead people linked to Sir John Lyon that, in 1372, purchased Glamis.
The legend has it the castle is inhabited by spirits, the best known among all, Lady Campbell that, suspected to have tried to poison king Giacomo V,
who was accused of witchcraft and after years in prison was burned in front of the castle of Edimburgo. It is said that after this punishment Lady
Campbell returned to Glamis, as ghost, as a spectrum disturbing the peace of the castle swinging her-self in a blaze of fire, directly above the clock
of the tower.
But the castle of Glamis is only one of the 50 castles of Scotland that the legend wants populated of ghosts.
